CHARLOTTE, NC -- "Eat More Chicken." It's the slogan coined by area favorite fast-food chain Chick-fil-a, and on February 13, 2007, it was the action people took to help raise money for Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic.
The idea began back in 2003 after Zach Ramsey, a loyal Cotswold Chick-fil-a employee, was diagnosed with cancer. Even at the young age of 15, he recognized that a cancer diagnosis posed a financial burden on many families, so he elicited the help of his workplace to raise money for Blume families in need. Now in its third year of operation, the fundraiser draws supporters from all over Charlotte who come to enjoy dinner and contribute to a great cause.
"We're so blessed to be involved in such a meaningful relationship with Chick-fil-a," said Dr. Mark Mogul, pediatric hematologist-oncologist at Blume. "Zach Ramsey had such a bright spirit and Im touched to see that he left such a legacy of caring."
Owners from the Costwold Chick-fil-a will deliver a $615 check from this year's fundraiser to Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28.
