Pediatric Cancer Patients Live Out Charlotte's Web Life Lessons
December 19, 2006

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Versatile. It means changing with ease from one thing to the next. At least that's what Charlotte, the wise protagonist from the children's classic, Charlotte's Web, says. Our own Queen City is home to a large group of children who exemplify versatility on a daily basis - pediatric cancer patients.
Thanks to the efforts of one Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology patient family, Charlotte-area pediatric cancer patients are being treated to a special viewing of the new Charlotte's Web movie, due to hit theatres on December 15.
"In our old home in Washington, D.C., a nonprofit group had been established that allowed children with compromised immune systems to have the same entertainment opportunities as that of healthy children," said Wayne and Kari Bourg, proud parents and event coordinators for the movie outing. "We saw how much it meant to the kids up there, so we wanted to provide that same opportunity in Charlotte."
With the help of Arboretum Cinemas and the Western North Carolina Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, more than 25 children will enjoy a free private viewing in a controlled environment that will not put them at elevated risk for contracting an infection. And since no movie-going experience is complete without snacks and popcorn, Arboretum Cinemas will make sure they are included as well.
To attend this special December 20 event at 9:30 a.m. at Arboretum Cinemas, please contact Megan Rounds, 704-384-9870, or the Media Cell, 704-617-2631.
