Charlotte, NC -- Most Thanksgiving celebrations include turkey, apple pie and a mouth watering medley of other trimmings. During a Thanksgiving celebration at
Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital on November 17, a talented troupe of Hawaiian
musicians and dancers added enriching cultural flair to the festivities.
While pediatric patients and their families dined on a savory Thanksgiving meal, five
members of the Hawaiian Kine group entertained the crowd with tropical tunes and traditional dances from the islands. Clad in colorful attire, performers used a variety of
instruments, sang songs and taught a few dance moves to guests.
As for the Thanksgiving feast that was served, the International Food Service Executives created a delicious assortment of goods including roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, macaroni and cheese, pies and more. In the spirit of volunteerism, students from Johnson and Wales University scooped out servings to visitors.
Pediatric patients also enjoyed arts and crafts that were organized by the hospital's new Arts for Life instructor, as well as students from UNC-Charlotte. Children painted holiday ornaments and created other works that will be treasured by their parents for years to come.
