Presbyterian Cancer Center and Avon Foundation Take Steps to Improve Breast Cancer Awareness and Support Programs
CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Thanks to Presbyterian Cancer Center and the Avon Foundation, walking for your health now has a community benefit as well. Participants in Charlotte's Second Annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, held October 21-22, 2006, raised over $1.6 million in funds dedicated to improving education, awareness and access to breast cancer treatment for the medically underserved population.
Presbyterian Cancer Center, nationally renowned for quality cancer care, received $125,000 for expanded community outreach and patient navigation services for underserved populations in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. These dollars will be used toward continuing to provide regular educational sessions and quarterly free mammogram screenings, as well as to establishing new outreach initiatives to benefit the community.
Presbyterian Cancer Center is a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer; another example of their commitment to providing medical knowledge, leading technology and nurturing care to patients and their families.
