MATTHEWS, N.C. - The staff at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews celebrated the births of some if its smallest babies Oct. 28 with a day of fun, food and festivities. More than 40 babies and their families attended the reunion held at Hemby Special Care Nursery at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews.
"The Special Care Nursery at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews has truly answered a healthcare need in this community," said Amy Vance, director of operations at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews. "Our Level III nursery has cared for more than 100 babies - the smallest of which weighed just 2.14 pounds."
Doctors, nurses and other members of the healthcare teams that cared for all of the babies attended the family-fun event complete with bubbles, face-painting and photographs. The special event was planned by Debbie Small, a registered nurse in the Special Care Nursery at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews, and it served as an opportunity for the entire healthcare team to reconnect with the babies and families for whom they cared.
Hemby Special Care Nursery at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews is certified by the state of North Carolina as a Level III nursery and provides all services (up to surgery) for babies that require extra help during their first weeks of life and who are born at least 32 weeks gestation.
