CHARLOTTE, NC -- Presbyterian Cancer Center has made sure that women newly diagnosed with breast cancer do not have the added stress of navigating the health care system alone. In fact, thanks to Presbyterian's Breast Health Navigator, Mary Keefe, RN, they have a valuable resource in place to make the journey through treatment as seamless as possible.
Keefe's role begins immediately upon diagnosis. She consults with the patient and provides information on available programs such as Buddy Kemp Caring House, cancer rehabilitation and the Second Opinion Breast Clinic. She also coordinates physician appointments, provides a familiar face at pre-surgery/surgery and outpatient services such as radiation and chemotherapy, and answers questions and offers support
"With a cancer diagnosis, it can be hard to rise above the gravity of the situation," said Keefe. "I am here to help women do just that - get their minds off the logistical details and focus on what is most important - getting well." Keefe has specialized training in breast health and breast cancer. With more than 30 years of experience, she recognizes the physical and emotional strife women go through upon diagnosis and throughout treatment.
