Presbyterian Proposes to Build Hospital in Mint Hill Area
July 18, 2006

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- In a certificate of need application filed with the state of North Carolina's Department of Facility Services, Presbyterian Healthcare has proposed to build a 50-bed, $90 million dollar hospital in the Mint Hill area. The application was filed on July 17, 2006.
Services at the proposed Presbyterian Hospital Mint Hill will include:
  • Emergency department with 16 treatment rooms
  • 38 acute care medical-surgical beds
  • 10 observation beds
  • Four intensive care unit beds
  • Four surgical operating rooms with nine first-stage recovery bays and 22 admission, preparation and second stage recovery rooms
  • Imaging services such as mammography, ultrasound, 16-slice CT scanner, mobile MRI, cardiac catheterization and more
  • Full-service laboratory and pharmacy
"Currently, the Mint Hill community in South Mecklenburg County lacks its own hospital," said Mark Billings, vice president of Presbyterian Healthcare's growth and development. "The Mint Hill population is growing every year. Subsequently, so will the demand for high quality healthcare services that are minutes away from the homes of residents. Each community deserves quick and easy access to a hospital they can call their own."
Presbyterian Healthcare is not a newcomer to the Mint Hill community. "We have been providing care to residents in that area since the early 1990s through several of Presbyterians physician practices," noted Billings. "Beyond the Mint Hill area, our organization has served the healthcare needs of North Carolina since our founding date 103 years ago."
Compared to other healthcare providers, Presbyterian has the most recent experience with building a community hospital from the ground up. "We built Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville in 2004. During the development of this facility, we partnered with community leaders and residents to ensure that the hospital we constructed was designed according to what citizens wanted. Similarly, we will host public forums to get input about what the community wants from Presbyterian Hospital Mint Hill."
