CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- More than 150 eager children and parents gathered for the 6th annual Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic picnic early Saturday afternoon. Instead of spreading a red and white gingham blanket in celebration of spring, families came together to celebrate life.
The picnic offered an array of activities for children fighting debilitating diseases such as cancer and leukemia. A high-tech racing simulator, a towering rock climbing wall and a dare-to-drench dunking booth were part of the picnic to show support for patients and family members. An inflatable "bounce house," air slide and arts and crafts station were part of the fun, with accompanying music by Radio Disney. Dr. Getwell, Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital's brightly-colored clown fish mascot, arrived in a pediatric critical care transport truck for the afternoon's events at Independence Park.
Blume Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic provides comprehensive care for pediatric patients through a staff of physicians, medical social workers, volunteers and community resource professionals. The goal at Blume Pediatric is to offer excellent patient care and education for children with serious illnesses.
