CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mice, princesses and movie stars were among the guests of honor at a Disney party thrown for patients and family members at Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital Wednesday afternoon. Eager children filled the festively decorated Hemby Children's Hospital indoor playground for storytelling with Radio Disney, and crafts and cupcakes with Disney characters Mickey, Minnie and Cinderella.
Also in attendance were "CARS" vocal co-stars from the upcoming computer-animated Disney-Pixar film "CARS." "Larry the Cable Guy," Bonnie Hunt and John Ratzenberger signed oversized "CARS" posters or mini automobile characters for patients at the party, and then later made special visits to patients unable to leave their hospital room.
"The kids really enjoyed spending the afternoon in such a fun-filled environment," said Sharon Key, the nurse manager of Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital. "We are thankful that Disney and 'CARS' cast members were able to come out and brighten their day."
A fleet of Disney VoluntEARS, company employees engaged in nonprofit community outreach programs, coordinated the party with Radio Disney AM 1480. The visit was part of Disney's pre-premiere events leading up to the debut of "CARS" at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Friday.
