CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- This Sunday around the globe, men, women and children of all ages will gather for a day filled with fellowship and festivities. The celebrants of this holiday are linked by a single distinguishing trait -- they are survivors of cancer. National Cancer Survivor's Day, a worldwide holiday to honor cancer survivors and demonstrate that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality, will be celebrated locally this year at the Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Caring House.
The Presbyterian Cancer Center will put on "A Walk in the Park" -- an array of festivities including everything from live music and food to face painting and balloon art. Motivational speakers and door prizes are also a part of the line up for the 11th annual celebration sponsored by Presbyterian Healthcare.
One local cancer survivor was so touched by the events surrounding National Cancer Survivor's Day and the quality of the Presbyterian Healthcare cancer services that she has scheduled her wedding to coincide with this year's National Cancer Survivor's Day weekend. "For me this weekend will not only be a celebration of life after cancer, but also a celebration of life in marriage," said Pam McAnulty, a three-time cancer survivor. McAnulty will hold her wedding ceremony at the Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Caring House a community cancer support center that provides counseling and educational programs for cancer patients.
"A Walk in the Park" will commence at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, at the Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Caring House located at 242 S. Colonial Ave. Please call 704-384-5223 by May 31 to register for the event.
