CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Presbyterian Hospital and LifeShare of the Carolinas will kickoff Donate Life Month by hosting a Lunch and Learn featuring keynote speaker Reg Green, father and founder of The Nicholas Green Foundation, on Monday, April 3, 2006.
Nicholas Green was only seven years old when he was killed while on vacation with his family in Italy. The decision by his parents to donate his organs quadrupled donation rates in Italy and became a major news story around the world.
Eleven years later, that story is still being told. All seven of the recipients of Nicholas' gift are still alive and leading productive lives. Reg Green will share his story with hospital staff and the community in an effort to help create awareness and increase donation rates.
He is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a luncheon in the auditorium at Presbyterian Hospital at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 3.
During the month of April, LifeShare, a regional organ procurement organization, and Presbyterian Hospital will join the rest of the nation in honoring the generosity of organ and tissue donors and noting the critical shortage of donors. Nationwide, there are over 97,000 registrations on the national waiting list for an organ transplant, including over 3,000 people in North Carolina.
