CHARLOTTE, N.C. Presbyterian Hospital's Cancer Center recently received the distinguished 2005 Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons.
The award is based on an on-site evaluation that identifies a Commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program, such as cancer committee leadership, data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement. The facility must also receive a compliance rating for the remaining 29 standards. Of more than 445 hospitals evaluated nationally, Presbyterian was one of 39 to attain outstanding achievement.
Presbyterian Hospital has been part of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer since 1988. They were the first in North Carolina to be designated as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.
"In addition to offering the latest diagnostic and treatment options, our Cancer Center is unique in the services it offers to the patients," says Barbara LiPira, executive director of oncology services. "Everything, from our Second Opinion Clinics to our Buddy Kemp Caring House to our Strides to Strength rehabilitation program is designed to meet and exceed the needs of our patients during a difficult time. We truly believe in treating the whole person, not just the disease, and this Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes our effort to do so."
