Charlote, N.C. -- The patients of Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital attended a Valentine's Day celebration to remember; one complete with food, crafts, clowns, dogs, tigers, fish and, most importantly, $60,000 worth of new toys.
Thanks to the Kids Wish Network Holiday of Hope Gift Bank and sponsoring group, Pediatric Dentistry, Presbyterian Hospital will have new toys to distribute to patients throughout the year. Presbyterian is the first hospital in the State to participate in the program. According to Pat Campbell, executive director of Presbyterian Women's and Children's Services, "The Holiday of Hope Gift Bank program reinforces Hemby Children's Hospital's legacy as a pillar in health care, and we couldn't be more excited to extend the opportunity to our patients."
More than 20 patients and their families sorted through stuffed animals, board games, electronic toys and books to decide which would make their hospital room more fun. Once the toys had been selected, the face painting, craft station and dog and tiger show ensued. Dr. Gil Getwell, Presbyterian Hospital's new mascot, even made an appearance at the event as well.
Child Life Director Kimberly Lucier summed up the festivity's intention. "We do what we can to make our patients feel like they are not missing out on all the fun even though they are in the hospital. The generous donation from Kids Wish Network will really help our patients feel loved on Valentine's Day and throughout the year."
