October 24, 2005 -- The term "hospitalist" topped the list of words added to the latest edition of Merriam-Websters Collegiate Dictionary, which formally defines words that have taken root in American conversation. So, just what exactly is a hospitalist?
October 20, 2005 -- Presbyterian Hospital welcomes Zonya Foco, America's Nutrition Leader and registered dietitian, for an evening of fun, food and good health. Zonya, a certified health and fitness instructor, best-selling author, television host and certified speaking professional, will give a free presentation at Presbyterian Hospital for the community on Nov. 2.
October 11, 2005 -- Novant Health was recently named a Top 40 Family-Friendly Company by Charlotte Parent magazine. The award recognized Novant for its creativity, commitment and investment in making work/life balance easier for its employees.
October 10, 2005 -- Presbyterian Hospital Matthews recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Level III special care nursery, which can care for premature babies and newborns suffering serious health conditions.
September 29, 2005 -- The Bristol-Myers Squibb Tour of Hope Team will stop at the Buddy Kemp Caring House in Charlotte on Thursday, Oct. 6, during a nine-day, 3,300-mile cross-country bicycle relay to promote cancer research.
September 26, 2005 -- Presbyterian Cancer Center has joined a select group along the East Coast by opening a center dedicated to High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy, making it comfortable and convenient for patients to receive the most advanced radiation treatment available.
August 12, 2005 -- Presbyterian's Hemby Intensive Care Nursery recently moved into its brand new location inside Presbyterian Women's Center. Hemby ICN is now centrally located with Presbyterian Hospital's other maternity services.
August 10, 2005 -- Presbyterian Hospital Matthews held a grand opening event to celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of their emergency department expansion on Tuesday, August 9. The expansion will allow the hospital to better serve patients and the community by increasing the number of treatment rooms, while reducing the amount of time a patient has to wait.
July 20, 2005 -- Dr. Richard B. Reiling, medical director for Presbyterian Cancer Center, has been elected by the American Medical Association House of Delegates (AMA HOD) to serve on the AMA's Council on Medical Education.
July 7, 2005 -- Presbyterian Cancer Center has been approved for three years with commendation as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
July 5, 2005 -- Presbyterian Hospital's Stroke Center is one of a select number of centers in North America participating in a new worldwide stroke study called DIAS-2. The Desmoteplase in Acute Ischemic Stroke (DIAS-2) Trial is a study involving 70-75 institutions worldwide.
June 13, 2005 -- Professional Research Consultants (PRC), a national healthcare marketing research company, recently announced its 2005 Client Satisfaction Achievement Awards. The awards are based on patient, employee and medical staff satisfaction surveys conducted in 2004. Presbyterian Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital Matthews and Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital received a total of 41 awards.
June 7, 2005 -- Twenty-one-year-old Rusana Smallwood from Jamaica received an early wedding present from heart surgeon, Scott Andrews, M.D., of Hawthorne Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons in Charlotte.
June 6, 2005 -- VHA Inc., a nationwide network of more than 2,200 community-owned healthcare organizations, has named the winners of the best practices and leadership awards for 2005. Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital Matthews are the recipient of several of those awards.
April 21, 2005 -- Presbyterian Healthcare has partnered with InRoomMD, a Charlotte-based company, to provide unique medical care services, including in-room "house call" physician visits, to travelers staying in Charlotte area hotels and motels.
April 20, 2005 -- To honor hospital employees during Nurses/Hospital Week May 6-12, Presbyterian Healthcare is seeking stories and poems from community members about their remarkable experiences at Presbyterians hospitals and physician practices.
March 15, 2005 -- Presbyterian Hospital recently opened a new PET Imaging Center, featuring the newest PET/CT scanner in the area.
February 25, 2005 -- Presbyterian Healthcare announced today that it would file a certificate of need with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to build a 64 bed hospital in Ft. Mill. The application will be filed by the deadline of March 11, 2005.
February 16, 2005 -- Presbyterian Healthcare has announced that it will seek state approval to build a new Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital, including an adjoining parking deck and medical office building.
