CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Presbyterian Healthcare announced today that it would seek state approval to build a new Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital, including an adjoining parking deck and medical office building.
The new hospital would have inpatient beds, operating rooms and the latest in MRI, CT and radiography technology. Preliminary plans call for a building between 190,000 and 220,000 square feet, with the parking deck expected to hold between 700 and 800 cars. The cost of the hospital and parking deck are estimated to be between $80-110 million.
The medical office building is initially projected to be 100,000 to 120,000 square feet and cost an estimated $20-30 million.
"Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital has established an international reputation for the quality staff and services it provides and this project will ensure that we stay at the forefront of orthopaedic medicine," said Carl Armato, president and CEO of Presbyterian Healthcare. Armato said the new hospital will be a model for quality orthopaedic care, as well as clinical research and instructional programming.
"As we have with all Presbyterian operations, physicians and staff will be actively involved in planning the new facility," Armato said. "We feel very strongly that input will result in a higher quality of medical care for our patients."
Presbyterian has retained McCullough England Architect Associates and Freeman-White Architects to plan and design the facilities. Several sites are being examined as potential locations for the new hospital/office complex, with a decision on the location expected to be made by May 2005. Pending approval from N.C. Department of Health and Human Services Division of Facility Services, Presbyterian hopes to break ground by early 2006.
