Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital Matthews have received national top honors, including some #1 rankings, for patient satisfaction based on the percent of patients who rank their care as excellent after leaving the hospital.
"These awards are especially important because they come directly from the people who matter the most - our patients," said Carl Armato, Presbyterian Healthcares president and chief executive officer. "They are a true testament to the excellent customer service provided by our staff."
Professional Research Consultants, a nationally known healthcare marketing research company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, compiles the data and compares hospitals across the nation. Hospitals are then awarded for their top rankings in the national database of patient satisfaction.
Based on overall quality of care, Presbyterian Hospital's cardiovascular recovery unit ranked in the top 10th percentile of hospitals in the national database. Presbyterian Hospital Matthews received similar awards for ranking in the top 10th percentile for overall inpatient services and for their medical unit. The Matthews hospital also received an "Overall Top Performer" award for the medical unit. That means Presbyterian Hospital Matthews had the highest percentage of patients who ranked the hospital's medical unit as excellent than any other hospital in the national database.
Several specific questions are also asked of patients during the telephone research interview, such as the overall cleanliness of the hospital. Presbyterian Hospital Matthews received an Inpatient Top Performer award for having the highest percentage of patients in the country who rated the overall cleanliness of the hospital as excellent. The Matthews Emergency Department received similar Top Performer awards for having the highest percentage of patients who rated the overall radiology services and overall laboratory services as excellent.
"We are pleased to honor Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital Matthews, as they are among a very elite group of hospitals and healthcare providers nationwide who put customer service first," said Joe M. Inguanzo, Ph.D., president and CEO of PRC. "It's an honor to do research for leading healthcare organizations, such as Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital Matthews."
This patient satisfaction research is conducted weekly throughout the year. PRC contacts a random sample of patients by telephone for a confidential interview to assess their satisfaction shortly after their hospital experience. The research findings are presented to the hospital to use in continuously improving patient satisfaction.
