Presbyterian Healthcare hospitals and physicians and MedCost have reached an agreement so that MedCost-covered patients may receive care from Presbyterian physicians, hospitals and other healthcare facilities. This agreement is effective Feb. 15 for Presbyterian Healthcare facilities and March 1 for Presbyterian physicians.
An estimated 76,000 members are enrolled in the MedCost plan in Charlotte and surrounding counties.
Owned by Carolinas Healthcare System and North Carolina Baptist Hospital, MedCost is one of the leading PPO networks in the Carolinas and serves more than 1.2 million people through its managed care provider network. "Were committed to giving consumers the right to choose their preferred provider for their care, and we welcome MedCost members to Presbyterian Healthcares excellent facilities and physicians," said Ed Case, president and CEO of Presbyterian Healthcare.
"This is another example of giving consumers the choice they are asking for," said Bob Seehausen, senior vice president of managed care for Novant Health. Because this contract is not exclusive with a single healthcare provider, patients in the Charlotte area are able to choose their physicians and hospital and receive equal health benefit coverage.
