Hyperbaric Medicine
Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO), often used in combination with other treatments such as surgery or antibiotic therapy, is used to care for patients with diabetic ulcers, infection of the bone, post radiation treatment wounds, post surgical wounds, preparation and preservation of compromised skin grafts/flaps and more.
The Presbyterian Center for Hyperbaric Medicine offers advanced Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Therapy, which exposes the body to 100 percent oxygen under increased pressure. Presbyterian offers Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. We also offer Transcutaneous Oximetry (TCOM2), or diagnostic oxygen studies. This non-invasive procedure measures blood flow and oxygen tension levels to help predict the healing potential of a wound.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Considerations
The Presbyterian Center for Hyperbaric Medicine is under the medical direction of qualified physicians trained in hyperbaric medicine. Registered nurses, also certified in hyperbaric medicine, remain with the patient throughout the treatment. A physician and nurse are available 24 hours a day for hyperbaric emergencies.
The Center for Hyperbaric Medicine is located on the first floor of Presbyterian Hospital near the Emergency Department (accessible from Caswell Road at Fourth Street), and is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. For more information about our services, call 704-384-7098.
