Minimally Invasive Surgery
Presbyterian Healthcare offers patients the most advanced techniques in minimally invasive surgery. In specialties ranging from Urology to General Surgery, our surgeons apply the most advanced technology to bring these minimally invasive surgical techniques to patients as quickly as possible.
Minimally invasive surgeries are done in the areas of:
Minimally invasive surgery is setting new standards for patient care because it allows surgeons to perform many operations without the trauma and pain associated with traditional procedures. This is accomplished through performing the surgical operation using small endoscopic cameras and several long, thin instruments. With this new medical technology, the surgeon can operate through natural body openings or small artificial incisions ('keyhole surgery').
In comparison to the usual, open surgery, minimally invasive surgery provides several advantages for the patient:
  • less pain, less strain on the body
  • faster recovery
  • less scarring
In addition, there is scientific evidence that most of the surgical procedures performed with this minimally invasive technique have results superior to the ones done with open techniques.
Robotic Surgery
Presbyterian is the first in the region to offer the newest form of minimally invasive surgery called robotic surgery. The robotic unit, the da Vinci surgical system is used to perform prostate and heart surgeries at Presbyterian Hospital.
