Sinus Endoscopy
Presbyterian Healthcare ear, nose and throat specialists treat chronic sinus problems with functional endoscopic sinus surgery. This is a minimally invasive procedure that eliminates the need for an external incision.
Surgery
The sinus surgery procedure begins through the nose, removing the thickened and diseased tissue blocking the sinuses. Most of the healthy tissue in the sinuses is undisturbed allowing for a rapid recovery.
The endoscopic procedure usually lasts from one to three hours and is performed using general or local anesthesia. Computer guidance is sometimes used to assist revision surgery when the patients anatomy is complex. Most patients go home after surgery unless other medical conditions complicate recovery. Unlike other sinus surgical procedures, endoscopic sinus surgery usually has no effect on the patient's appearance.
