CT Scan of the Extremities

Procedure
- CT scans of the legs or feet require you to lie on the table on your back. You enter the scanner feet first to about the middle of you abdomen.
- CT scans of the hand and arms require you to be placed on your stomach on the table with your arms about your head. You enter the scanner head first and advance to the middle of your back.
- The techonologist positions you in the scanner and leaves the room.
- He or she will program the scanner to take the pictures.
- The technologist will tell you when the scan starts.
Special Notes
- This scan takes 15 to 30 minutes.
- Most scans of extremities are done without dye.
- The scan will be shown to a radiologist for interpretation and a report will be sent to your doctor.
- This report should be available in about four to five working days after the scan.
