Children's Diagnostic Tests
Pediatric Diagnostic Radiology uses medical imaging techniques to provide information about your child's health. This includes x-rays, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine.
Specially trained doctors, called radiologists, perform these exams with the help of certified radiology technicians. The radiologist interprets or reads the medical images and provides your doctor with a written report. This will help determine the best medical care for you or your family.
Do you have specific questions about children's health? Visit our Health Library for answers.
At Presbyterian Hospital, we have approximately 25 radiologists, all of whom are able to perform and interpret radiology tests for your children. We also have a diagnostic radiologist who received additional training in pediatric radiology. This radiologist can be requested to perform the exam or provide a second verbal interpretation.
The Radiology Department can be reached 24 hours a day at 704-384-4056. A referral is required from your medical doctor for performance of a radiologic examination.

These include upper GI and barium enema examinations, cystograms (bladder tests), intravenous urograms (kidney tests), Ultrasound, CT scans and MRIs. The brochures describe what you and your child can expect regarding your child's examination. Those are available upon request, and can be picked up on the day of your child's examination.
