Hospice
| Presbyterian Hospice provides compassionate care to patients with terminal illnesses and supportive care to their families. |

There is never a time when 'nothing else can be done.' There may be a time when there is nothing left to promote a cure, but there is always something more to be done to encourage comfort and promote quality of life. Hospice is that something more. -Dame Cicely Sanders, Founder St. Christopher's Hospice |

When curative measures are no longer an option, hospice care makes patients comfortable during the end stages of life. In addition to the physical needs of the patient, the hospice team addresses the spiritual and emotional stress that may come with a life-limiting illness for patients and their families.
Our Hospice Team
At Presbyterian Hospice, our team-based approach includes the expertise of a variety of professionals. All these providers work together with the patient and their caregiver to offer comprehensive supportive care.
Volunteers are also a vital part of the hospice program. They provide companionship for patients and their families, assist with transportation needs and errands, and offer bereavement care to the family. Many of our hospice volunteers were introduced to the program while caring for a family member.

Harris Hospice Unit
Presbyterian's hospice program includes the area's only inpatient hospice unit, located within Presbyterian Cancer Center. The Harris Hospice Unit becomes a home away from home for many families. Patients and their loved ones can be together in an area where the emphasis is on stabilizing symptoms while providing comfort and support. Our coordinated team approach to care helps families learn to provide the necessary hospice care at home while still having the guidance and support of our staff in the hospital. The hospice team also will assist the family in coordinating plans for returning the patient home after symptoms are under control.
Bereavement Program
Our hospice program offers specially designed bereavement services to anyone in the community dealing with a serious illness, grief or loss, free of charge. Services include newsletters, education, support groups and individual counseling for up to one year after a loss.
