The Children's Emergency Department encompasses a "child-friendly" environment staffed by physicians board-certified in pediatric emergency medicine and nurses specially trained in pediatric care. The department provides evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents, up to age 18. Because children have unique needs, the Children's Emergency Department at Presbyterian is designed and equipped exclusively for them and includes the following features:
- Licensed as an emergency care department offering specialized pediatric emergency services to children.
- Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Specially designed, age-appropriate equipment, seating, stretchers and supplies to meet the needs of pediatric patients.
- Board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and staff specially trained in emergency care for children.
- Eight exam rooms, two treatment rooms dedicated to orthopaedic and gynecological care, as well as radiology services conveniently located within the department.
Four environments:
Patients have the opportunity to travel the world while visiting Presbyterian Children's Emergency Department. The journey begins through the tropical seas in the waiting room and reception area. Children can play video games and watch movies while being surrounded by murals of seahorses, dolphins and clown fish swimming through the coral reef. The adventure continues with entering the arctic tundra triage rooms. Our triage is filled with polar bears and penguins playing in the wintry landscape. The african savannah is home to the eight exam rooms, where you can see giraffes and other animals grazing the plains. If your journey should lead you to the radiology room, you will then experience a beautiful rainforest.

If your child is admitted:
Presbyterian also has a hospital dedicated to the care of children. Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital provides comprehensive services to ensure that all of your child's needs are met. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, with its leading-edge technology, cares for critically ill children. Both are located within the same building as the Children's Emergency Department.
