Pastoral Care
Presbyterian Cancer Center recognizes the impact cancer can have on a person physically, emotionally and spiritually. We offer inpatient pastoral care as a part of our holistic approach to cancer care.
Through our Pastoral Care Services, a chaplain is available 24 hours a day to provide emotional and spiritual support to cancer patients, family members and staff, despite religious affiliation. The Presbyterian Cancer Center strives to create an environment where all patients can use their faith, in conjunction with treatment, to fight cancer.
Research shows a connection between spirituality and good health, and for cancer patients this may mean less fear of death, less discomfort and decreased loneliness.
Our Pastoral Care Services offers the following to cancer patients and their families:
  • Individual and group prayer
  • Counseling by a faith representative of the patient's choice
  • Weekly worship services
  • Pastoral comfort and support
  • Assistance with development of advanced directives and/or living wills
  • Family consultations
  • Grief and bereavement counseling and referral
  • Support with end-of-life issues and decisions
  • Communication and follow-up with patient's local pastor and church
  • Telephone consultations with patients' family members
