Presbyterian Cancer Care Locations
Radiation Oncology
| The Presbyterian Cancer Center's Radiation Oncology Department provides expert, compassionate care combined with the latest technology to serve patients and their families. |
The Radiation Oncology Unit is located on the first floor of Presbyterian Hospital and can be accessed through the Cancer Center entrance off Caswell Street.
Radiation Oncology provides in- and outpatient radiation treatment using linear accelerators and radioactive materials to treat cancer and relieve symptoms. Radiation therapy is often used in combination with surgery or chemotherapy, and new techniques, such as IMRT and 3-D treatment planning, have been developed that deliver a higher dose of radiation to cancer cells while limiting doses to normal tissue.
New patients will receive an assessment from one of our specially trained nurses before their initial consult with the radiation oncologist. Our staff educates the patient about the side effects of radiation treatment, and they also provide referrals to our many support services such as nutritional counseling, pastoral care, or psychological support counseling.
