Regular gynecological checkups should be an integral part of every woman's comprehensive healthcare. Checkups include a complete medical or internal examination of multiple organ systems, including thyroid, breast, heart, lungs, abdomen, extremities and a pelvic exam. Pap smears are also performed as part of the pelvic exam and are recommended for all women over age 18 or at the onset of sexual activity. Your gynecology will refer you for a screening mammogram at an appropriate age based on your risk factors.

The first step in planning to have a baby should be a visit to your obstetrician. We will assess your overall health and work with you to plan for a healthy pregnancy and baby. In addition to routine obstetrics, our physicians provide specialized care for high-risk obstetrical patients. For routine pregnancies, we deliver at Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville, where moms can stay in the same room during their entire labor/delivery/postpartum stay. For high-risk patients, we use Presbyterian Hospital downtown which features a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit.
