They devoted their time and talent to Presbyterian Hospital for many years. The Presbyterian School of Nursing is pleased to continue the tradition of excellence through the alumni association.
The Presbyterian Hospital Alumni Association was established in 1930 by Mary Belle May, the superintendent of nurses. This position included charge of the hospital staff and the School of Nursing.
The alumni association was operated solely by volunteers until 1987. That year the hospital and School of Nuring jointly offered a part-time position to assist the organization, making Norma Farnsworth the first director of alumni affairs. The position strengthened ties among the hospital, school, and community. The School of Nursing is now under Queens University's care, but the alumni association remains tied to its roots at Presbyterian Hospital.
The alumni association is once again a volunteer organization, with administrative support from Presbyterian Hospital and Novant Health. Graduates provide the board members, alumni dues and event planning that keeps the organization vibrant. And, just like when it began, the alumni association continues to promote fellowship among its members, advance the interests of Presbyterian Healthcare and promote professional/educational advancements in nursing at Presbyterian Healthcare.
