Women's Services

Novant Health Matthews Medical Center provides a wide range of services for women, including a family maternity center and The Nursing Mother's Place.

"Home away from home" is the feeling you'll have when delivering your baby at Matthews Medical Center. Decorated in soft colors, each birthing suite features a private bathroom and whirlpool tub, VCR, stereo, refrigerator, sleep bed for birthing partner and private balcony.

Matthews Medical Center encourages 24/7 rooming-in to help mom and baby get to know each other. Should you have a premature delivery or if baby has any special needs, neonatal nurse practitioners are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. We have a Level III nursery and access to the Level IV nursery at Novant Health Women's Center in Charlotte. We also provide prenatal breastfeeding classes for expectant women at Matthews Medical Center.

Family Maternity Center

The Family Maternity Center at Matthews Medical Center offers labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum suites, decorated in soft colors with home-like touches such as recliners, dinette sets, TV, VCR, refrigerator, large windows and outside balconies. A comfortable  daybed is located in each room for family members. Neonatal nurse practitioners are on-site 24-hours a day, seven days a week to support the Maternity Center in case of high-risk delivery occurs. Our maternity services are supported by a Level III nursery to provide care for premature and seriously ill newborns.

The Nursing Mother's Place

The Nursing Mother's Place at Matthews Medical Center is a comprehensive lactation center. It supports the mother's choice to breastfeed by making her aware of options regarding breastfeeding management. Online Nursery

The morning after your delivery, one of our photographers will set up an appointment with you to take baby's first official photograph for free. Portraits can be seen at the time the photographs are taken, allowing you to choose your favorites on a full screen monitor from the comfort of your bed.

You'll also have the opportunity to order creative birth announcements, photo packages, and new baby keepsakes for your whole family. And, you can create a secure, personalized Web page for your baby. The Web page is password-protected, and you can share it with your friends and family easily.
