Level III Special Care Nursery
The Level III special care nursery at Matthews Medical Center provides round-the-clock care for little ones who need it most. In this Level III Nursery, neonatologists (physicians who specialize in the care of premature and sick babies) and neonatal nurse practitioners work closely with a team of specially-trained registered nurses, respiratory therapists, medical social workers, and other neonatal professionals.
For babies that need more specialized care, Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte offers a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit.

Critical Care Transport
Novant Health Critical Care Transport takes critically-ill infants, children and teens from area hospitals to Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital for treatment. This dedicated pediatric transport staff was the first team in the area just for children.
The mobile unit and its special treatment team respond quickly to calls. Intensive care treatment begins immediately upon arrival at the referring hospital and continues during transport to Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital in Charlotte. Every effort is made to ensure a smooth transition for the child and family.
