Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte
The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte provides families coming from outside Mecklenburg County with affordable shelter, food and emotional support while their child is receiving medical treatment at Hemby or other nearby pediatric medical facilities. Donations of $15 are requested per night, but they never turn anyone away, regardless of their ability to pay.
The Ronald McDonald House is conveniently located just five minutes from Presbyterian Hospital, and families in need of shelter are able to enjoy private bedrooms/suites (one per family, each with a private bathroom), a community kitchen, great room, learning center/computer room, playground and sitting porch, among other amenities. The House provides dinner nightly (leftovers are always in the refrigerator) and snacks throughout the day, so you can focus all of your attention on your child’s hospitalization and well-being.
Health and wellness programs, educational support for siblings, holiday parties and other activities take place at the Ronald McDonald House on a weekly basis, providing a social outlet for you and your children and a place to connect with other families in similar situations.
Hemby Children’s Hospital is proud to partner with the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte to provide this valuable resource to our families and the community. Prior to opening in May 2011, Hemby donated $750,000 to allow the House to open on time with all capital expenses covered. A portion of this donation was used to purchase a van to shuttle families back and forth from the House to the hospital.
To request a room at the Ronald McDonald House, please ask a member of your Hemby team. We will work with you to complete the necessary form to submit to the Ronald McDonald House. For more information, call child life at 704-384-5134.
Hospitality House of Charlotte
Hospitality House of Charlotte provides a place to stay for out-of-town families who have a loved one who is in the hospital. Guests can enjoy a private bedroom as well as amenities like a place to do laundry, prepare a meal, access the Internet, watch TV or just relax. There is also a safe play area for children.
Even visitors who are not spending the night can take advantage of the resources provided by the Hospitality House of Charlotte. There is a separate area for day guests to shower, do laundry, prepare a meal and enjoy the same amenities as overnight guests.
A $40 per night donation is requested so the Hospitality House of Charlotte can continue to provide resources and respite to those with a loved one in the hospital. Guests must be referred by a hospital facility, so please ask a member of your child’s care team if you would like an application. For more information, please contact child life at 704-384-5134.
