Visiting A Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital Patient

Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital patients love visitors! We believe that children heal better and faster when surrounded by loved ones. Visitors help distract your child from hospital life and provide a sense of normalization and familiar faces in a setting full of uncertainty and medical procedures. And, most importantly, visitors are fun and show your child that they are loved.

If you are not a member of the patient’s immediate family, we recommend that you connect with them before visiting, as children may be napping or not feeling well at any given time. But more often than not, visitors brighten the spirits of even our youngest patients, and we encourage parents, siblings, grandparents and close friends and relatives to drop by.

Visiting hours and guidelines

While visitors are always encouraged and welcomed at almost all hours of the day, each pediatric area of the hospital has slightly different visiting hours and restrictions to ensure the utmost safety of our patients and provide a restful atmosphere during the nighttime hours. Please review the guidelines and contact the nurses’ station (numbers listed in parentheses) if you have questions.

  • General pediatric floor (704-384-4021): Visitors of all ages are welcome 24 hours a day.

  • Pediatric intensive care unit (704-384-7024)– Each PICU patient may have two bedside visitors at a time, and other visitors may wait in the PICU waiting room. Siblings and friends age 11 and older are allowed to visit. From 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., we request that visitors be limited to immediate family members. We do have a daily quiet hour from 3 to 4 p.m., and we ask that there be minimal activity of visitors in and out of the PICU during this time.

  • Neonatal intensive care unit (704-384-4944) – Family members and friends are welcome to visit at all times. We ask that all visitors be over age 13 and be accompanied by one of the baby’s parents at all times.
