Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) is often used in combination with other treatments such as surgery or antibiotic therapy. It is used to care for patients with diabetic ulcers, infection of the bone, post-radiation treatment wounds, post-surgical wounds, preparation and preservation of compromised skin grafts/flaps and more.
HBO is a medical treatment where the entire body is exposed to 100-percent oxygen under increased pressure. Initially used as a treatment for underwater divers with the "bends," hyperbaric oxygen is effective in treating a variety of diseases. HBO is not a replacement for other proven methods of treatment such as surgery or antibiotics. It is generally prescribed in conjunction with other forms of treatment.
