At Novant Health, we want to make sure you have a safe and joyous birth. Here are some helpful hints to help you prepare for your upcoming delivery.
Arrival
When you arrive for your delivery, you’ll see parking spaces designated especially for moms-to-be. A guest services representative can escort you directly to Labor & Delivery so that you can prepare to meet your little one.
Labor Evaluation
Your first stop will be in our triage area, where you will be examined to see how far your labor has progressed. You may have one support person with you during this time.
Labor & Delivery
Once you are admitted, you’ll be taken to one of our spacious birthing care suites.
We will give you as much freedom and control as possible during labor and delivery, including choosing whether to have your baby with or without the use of anesthesia. Whichever method you select, our nursing staff will help you with breathing and relaxation techniques to make the birthing experience more comfortable.
Phone
You will have a direct phone line in your room, and your nurse will write the number on the whiteboard on the wall.
Food & Drink
During labor and delivery, you will be on a clear liquid diet. This includes water, ice, juice, soft drinks, popsicles and hot drinks.
Share Your Joy
To announce the birth of your baby, we invite you to turn a special key that will play “Brahms’ Lullaby” throughout the hospital. Staff, patients and family members always enjoy hearing this celebration of life.
Infant Safety & Security
Your baby’s safety is extremely important to us. Our state-of-the-art security system adds extra safety measures for easy identification of your baby, with all newborns having special ankle bracelets that send a signal for doors to lock if a baby is taken from the maternity area.
Visitors
Friends and family are welcome to visit. However, we ask that you have no more than four visitors at a time. Children are also welcome to visit, but they must be under adult supervision at all times.
You may have two people with you during the birthing process – your coach and one additional support person. Please let your nurse know if you have previously made other arrangements with your doctor.
Discharge Time
Our check-out time is 11 a.m. daily.
