Voted 2012 Best Place to Give Birth by readers of Charlotte Parent Magazine!
Novant Health Women’s Center, located at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, is a special place dedicated solely to the medical needs of women and newborns.
Birthing Care Suites
Each of our 16 spacious birthing care suites is decorated in soothing colors and includes a private bathroom with an air-jet Jacuzzi, sleep chair for your birth partner, rocking chair, wireless high-speed internet access, TV with DVD/VCR and a stereo with a CD/MP3 player. Each birthing suite also features a sink designed especially for your baby’s first bath, allowing you and your birth partner to share this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Family Care Suites
Following delivery, you will be transferred to one of 35 spacious, private family care suites for the remainder of your stay. Each suite includes a sleep bed and work desk for your birth partner, a private bath with hair dryer, a ceiling fan, a glider rocker and large windows for an abundance of natural light. You can also email your baby’s first photos using our wireless high-speed internet access.
If you are breastfeeding, one of our certified lactation consultants from The Nursing Mother’s Place will meet with you in your family care suite. If you have further questions after leaving the hospital, lactation consultations are available on an outpatient basis.
Special Care Suites
Should you require specialized care during pregnancy, our 14-bed high-risk special care unit is supported by perinatologists (physicians specializing in high-risk pregnancies). Mothers with high-risk pregnancies can receive diagnostic sonograms, fetal heart rate monitoring and interventional procedures. Special care suites include all of the amenities of a family care suite, plus a refrigerator.
Newborn Care

At Novant Health Women’s Center, we encourage you to participate in “rooming in,” where you keep your baby with you in your hospital room from the moment he or she arrives. Rooming in allows you and your baby to bond more quickly and will help you feel more prepared to care for your baby when you go home. You’ll also become more familiar with your baby’s feeding cues, and your breast milk will come in sooner.
Rooming in also benefits your baby by:
- Allowing you to breastfeed longer, which helps your baby develop a stronger immune system and gain weight at a healthier rate
- Ensuring your baby sleeps better, cries less and is consoled more easily
- Helping your baby feel safer and develop an early attachment to you, which leads to positive brain development
Online Photo Nursery
Once your baby is born, your family and friends can share in the celebration by viewing photos of your newborn in our
online photo nursery (with your permission).
