This procedure (also called a D&C) involves enlarging a woman’s cervix to clean the uterine lining.
Women routinely have D&Cs to prevent infection or heavy bleeding, or after a miscarriage or abortion. D&Cs are also performed to remove fibroid or cancerous growths, or to correct hormone imbalances. They may be performed in a clinic or a hospital setting using varying amounts of anesthesia during the procedure.
