The Novant Health Stroke/Neurological Rehabilitation Program is based at Novant Health Rehabilitation Center in Charlotte, located near Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. This outpatient program is designed for stroke survivors as well as people with other diseases, trauma or disorders of the brain and spinal cord.

Following are some of the conditions for which stroke/neurological rehabilitation may be appropriate:
  • Stroke
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Tumors
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Balance and vestibular disorders
  • Swallowing disorders
The program is structured to provide an interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation. Depending on your diagnosis, your treatment team may include the following experts:
  • Registered nurse
  • Case manager
  • Physical therapist
  • Occupational therapist
  • Speech language pathologist
  • Psychologist
Treatment is designed to meet the individual needs of each patient and his or her family and can include:
  • Medical management
  • Patient and family education
  • Functional restoration
  • Training for daily living skills
  • Cognitive and communication exercises and strategies
  • Individual/family psychological services
  • Training and education to improve coping and adjustment skills for patients and family members
The program also offers a stroke support group that meets on a regular basis at the center. The support group offers different educational topics to patients and family members in addition to emotional support.
