  1. Recognize the symptoms
Is your child progressing slowly in learning to talk? Does your child have trouble with words? Even mild hearing loss in one or both ears can affect how your child communicates with others and how he performs in school.

  2. Catch problems early
A child whose speech develops slower than other children can have social, emotional and behavioral problems in school, and low self-confidence. Most children diagnosed during infancy with early intervention services mainstream into regular classroom settings, avoiding identification as special education students.

  3. Know your options
Several methods now safely test infant, toddler and children’s hearing and/or middle ear function. Each checks a different part of the ear for a thorough evaluation.

  4. Screen often for early detection
Children should have their hearing tested at certain ages from infancy through adolescence (and even into adulthood). You can verify this testing at your child’s school, or call 704-384-7434 for a hearing test.

  5. Find resources
If you are concerned that your child may have hearing, understanding or developmental difficulties, call 704-384-7434 to schedule a hearing test. If necessary, your child can be fitted with an aid for a 60 day-trial to ensure the best fit.
