Cancer is the leading cause of death in children younger than 20. However, our experts at
Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic are working to beat that statistic.
Our pediatric patients also benefit from the latest advancements in cancer care and research through our membership in the
Children’s Oncology Group, a national leader in pediatric cancer research.
These coordinated services make us one of the most experienced pediatric cancer clinics available in the region.
Your Team of Specialists Focuses on Your Child and Their Treatment
Novant Health Cancer Center provides comprehensive cancer care for children at Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic. Offering both
inpatient and outpatient services, our program includes a staff of dedicated nurses with expertise in pediatric oncology, a
child life program, medical social workers and community resource professionals. Through a family-centered approach, parents and siblings of our cancer patients can receive counseling and support to help understand and cope with this disease.
Cancer Support for Your Child & Your Family
Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center and Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic offer two support groups for pediatric and young adult patients, and their families. The ALL OUT (Always Living Life with our Own Unique Twist) group is open to teens and young adults with a cancer diagnosis and meets on the third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. The Family Ties support group is open to families who have a child with cancer. Call
704-384-0103 for updated meeting times.
Patients and families can also benefit from other support services offered at Buddy Kemp, including counseling, support groups, case management, educational seminars and a lending boutique.
Clinical Trials Offer Treatments Not Widely Available
Novant Health Cancer Center participates in national and international
clinical research trials, allowing our patients to have an opportunity to receive cancer treatment not widely available.

Child Life Services Make Treatment Easier
Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic features dedicated
child life specialists, who are trained in child development and are considered valuable members of the medical team. Through medical play and other techniques, they minimize the psychological trauma that a cancer diagnosis may bring. Additionally, Blume offers
Arts for Life, a program that improves the healthcare experience through painting, drawing, writing, music and other forms of expression.
Young Adults and Cancer
Sometimes the term “pediatric cancer” can be misleading, as young adults into their late 20s can still be diagnosed with pediatric forms of cancer. Novant Health Cancer Center recognizes that these individuals need to be treated in a unique way – different from treating a child or an adult. Our
young adult program seeks to meet this special patient population right where they are, both clinically and emotionally.
