Mammograms are low-dose X-rays that can detect changes or abnormalities in the breast. We perform two types of mammograms at Novant Health Breast Center – screening mammograms and diagnostic mammograms.

Screening mammograms are the best way to help find breast cancer in its earliest stages, when cure rates are highest. Screenings are intended for women who do not have significant symptoms, such as a black or bloody nipple discharge or a lump. All seven Novant Health Breast Center locations offer screening mammograms.

If we find a problem during your screening or if you are experiencing unusual symptoms, we may recommend you receive a diagnostic mammogram or other breast imaging procedure to help identify the cause. Currently, our breast centers in Huntersville and downtown Charlotte offer diagnostic mammograms.

Waiting to receive the results of your mammogram can cause anxiety and worry. You'll find relief in knowing that we get back to you with your results within seven days. Please note, results may take longer if we have to order films of previous mammograms from another facility for comparison.
