Medical Care Decisions

Novant Health respects the wishes of our patients concerning medical care, including the right to accept or refuse medical or surgical treatment. It is also a Novant Health policy to encourage and assist patients in determining and expressing their preferences about treatment decisions in the event that they become unable to make or make known those decisions.

Advance Directives

Novant Health will follow the instructions expressed in a patient's advance directive to the extent required by law. For patients who are unable to make, or make known, medical decisions and do not have an advance directive, Novant Health will get consent from the patient's spouse, parents, guardian, nearest relative or other person authorized to speak for the patient. Learn More »
