On Friday, March 2, 2012, Novant Health Foundation hosted an evening of fun and Southern hospitality to benefit the Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center. With the help of many volunteers and friends, the Oyster Roast and Crawfish Boil was an evening to remember. Our sincere thanks goes out to Robert and Suzanne Pittenger, who so graciously hosted over 300 Novant Health friends and supporters at their home.
The event’s delectable menu was prepared by the evening’s renowned guest chefs: the Crawfish King Carl Armato, president and CEO of Novant Health, and oyster chef Rex Welton, board member and longtime friend of Novant Health Foundation.
Bluegrass music from The Blue Dogs provided a fun and celebratory background for socializing around oyster and crawfish tables, feasting on other low-country favorites like sausages on Merita bread and macaroni and cheese, and enjoying the king cake, flown-in especially for the occasion from a Carl Armato-approved bakery in Louisiana.
In addition to having a good time, all of these friends gathered together to support a wonderful cause. The Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center offers support groups, counseling services, educational programs and a resource library for individuals of all ages diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families and friends. All services are free and available to anyone, regardless of insurance, physician or hospital affiliation.
