The Grand Rounds Lecture Series, presented by Novant Health Foundation Presbyterian Medical Center, was created to educate community leaders about current healthcare topics.
In 2011, the Foundation began a lecture series that educates community leaders about current healthcare topics of interest. The purpose of the Grand Rounds Lecture Series is to provide community leaders with a more in-depth view of healthcare capabilities available in our region. It is our hope that they will then share this information in their respective roles throughout the community of Charlotte. The two Grand Rounds lectures each year will highlight advancements in treatment in various fields of medicine.
The Foundation held its inaugural Grand Rounds lecture as a breakfast at Myers Park Country Club on February 3, 2011, How to Fix a Broken Heart: The Future of Cardiovascular Healthcare. Cardiologist Dr. Yele Aluko and cardiac surgeon Dr. Barry Chan, both from the Novant Health Heart & Vascular Institute, presented medical conditions, innovative treatment options and prevention techniques from their respective practices.
On November 29, 2011, the Foundation sponsored a second Grand Rounds breakfast: The Personalization of Cancer Treatment: There is No One-Size-Fits-All Solution. Radiation oncologist Dr. Scott McGinnis of Southeast Radiation Oncology Group, P.A., surgical oncologist Dr. Richard Reiling of Novant Health, and urologist Dr. Daniel Watson of Urology Specialists of Charlotte, presented advancements in the treatment of various types of cancer, and particularly, how today’s cancer treatments are tailored to the needs of the individual patient. We were also extremely fortunate to have community leaders Cathy Bessant, Global Technology and Operations executive, Bank of America, and Humpy Wheeler, chairman and CEO, The Wheeler Company, share their experiences as cancer survivors.
The Foundation is excited about the opportunity that the Grand Rounds Lecture Series has provided to educate our community about Novant Health’s leadership in the leading edge issues surrounding the practice of medicine today.
