Presbyterian Healthcare plans to open Mint Hill hospital in 2016

Presbyterian Healthcare will open a hospital in Mint Hill in 2016, two years earlier than announced in the last progress update to the community in March 2011.

Under current plans, a full-service hospital will be constructed with all services opening at once. Presbyterian previously planned to develop the hospital using a phased-in approach that would add services over time.

Funds to be used toward Nursing Education

Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation recently received a $1.6 million dollar gift from the estate of Margaret “Jean” Norwood Culver, a Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing alumnae from the Class of 1942. Funds will be used to support nursing education, with $500,000 committed to creating a mobile patient simulation lab and the remaining $1.1 million going toward nursing scholarships.

Program seeks to address Intimacy issues in women diagnosed with cancer

Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center will host a program entitled Women, Sexuality and Cancer on Mon., Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. Women, Sexuality and Cancer is a program designed for women diagnosed with cancer and focuses on issues related to body image and emotional and physical adaptations to encourage intimacy with their partner. Certified sex therapist Maria Boccia, PhD, and ob-gyn Alyse Kelly-Jones, MD, both from the Center for Sexual Health & Education will lead discussion for this all-female audience.
