Transapical Approach to Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Now Available for Patients with Severe Aortic Stenosis

Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC is the first hospital in the Charlotte region to perform TAVR by the transapical approach, which was recently approved by the FDA. Additionally, the FDA announced that TAVR is now approved for high risk patients; previously it was only approved for inoperable patients.

Presbyterian Cancer Center Earns National Accreditation for Breast Care

Presbyterian Cancer Center’s multidisciplinary breast program has been granted a three-year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast case and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

Local Family Establishes Foundation in Honor of Infant Son

A new fund has been created to benefit patients at Presbyterian Hemby Children’s Hospital. Started by Meg McElwain and Frank Turner, III, the Mitchell Bays Turner Pediatric Fund, named in honor of their infant son who’s battling a rare form of leukemia, will raise money to support families facing challenging pediatric diagnoses and educate the community about childhood cancer.
