Radiologic Technology Students Sweep Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Students in the radiologic technology program at Presbyterian Hospital attended the annual conference of the North Carolina Society of Radiologic Technologists, Inc. They submitted scientific exhibits into a competition with other students across the state. Three of Presbyterian’s senior students won the only three awards given in the category of student scientific exhibits.

“I’m so proud of our students” said Betsy Shields, program director, radiologic technology program, “the awards they received are a representation of the phenomenal program at Presbyterian Hospital that allows students to combine classroom instruction with clinical work.”

Emily Thompson won first place for her exhibit titled “Are You Lopsided?” on limb length discrepancies and limb lengthening procedures. Charlene Jones came in second place for her exhibit “From Russia Without Love” on the increase in thyroid cancer in children exposed at Chernobyl. Bailey Clark took third place for his exhibit “Positioning Booty” on non-routine orthopedic procedures.
