Monday, June 28, 2010

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian Hospital has earned a prestigious three-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. This rating represents the highest quality of cardiac surgical care and was achieved by just 11.7 percent of cardiac surgery hospitals in the United States.

Presbyterian Hospital’s three-star rating is based on data from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons’ Cardiac Surgery Database between January and December 2009. The top rating represents consistently exceptional cardiac surgical outcomes; cardiac surgery hospitals are measured on surgical techniques, use of appropriate medications and avoidance of mortality and morbidity. Presbyterian Hospital physicians and staff are committed to improving quality outcomes for cardiac surgery patients, and a multidisciplinary best practice team meets weekly to ensure that these patients receive excellent care.

The Presbyterian Cardiovascular Institute at Presbyterian Hospital offers leading-edge cardiac surgical treatments in addition to a wide range of other services. Cardiac surgery patients are supported by physicians from Hawthorne Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeons as well as an expert clinical team.
